Outreach Courses for most of the year are aimed at staff involved in supporting students with a visual impairment. At the beginning of our Easter holiday, NCW academic and care staff are involved with supporting some students with their preparations for their GCSE exams.

This year eleven students came to NCW for sessions aimed at helping them prepare for English, Mathematics and Science exams, as well as spending some time on improving their study skills. They were joined in the English sessions, and for the social activities, by the NCW Y11 students who were involved in their own revision lessons.

The three days provided an opportunity for our specialist QTVIs to work with students to complete experiments in Science and explore issues relating to the use of tactile diagrams in Science as well as Maths. English sessions encourage consideration of strategies to be used for the different papers and skills. In the evenings students went bowling and even had an April barbecue.

As two of the students said, ‘I really enjoyed this week and would happily do it again’ and ‘I loved it here! It was an amazing time!’
