Goalball Glory

A Level Success for NCW students

New College Worcester pupils who are blind or visually impaired are celebrating their A Level results today with students who are choosing further education acquiring the grades needed to pursue their first choice of University course.

Reunion BBQ

We had a wonderful Reunion BBQ on Saturday. The sun shone as leavers from every decade since the 1950s and from as far away as Liverpool and Exeter to catch up with one another over a drink and lunch.

Carnegie Awards

Once again the students at NCW have been getting stuck into Carnegie Shadowing – the scheme for children and young people across the UK as they shadow the prestigious Carnegie Medal. The books which are shortlisted for this coveted award have been provided in braille and large print for our students to read, so that they can join in with other students across the country and decide which of these eight marvellous books should win the medal

Walk, Rest & Rail

Trip to Alicante

For the first time, last term we had the opportunity to take a small group of students from NCW, Paige, Jack, Charlie and Tobias) to our exchange partner centres in Alicante, Spain. We were hosted by CRE (Centre of Resources for the blind and visually impaired in Alicante) during a weekend of special activities all themed around English. We also had a chance to visit IES Las Fuentes High School in Villena, Alicante and meet some of our pen-pal friends. During the trip, we took part in learning activities organised by CRE and we were immersed in the local culture visiting different tourist sites.

Surrounded by austere clerics from the past, their pigmented eyes staring down, thirteen eager poets tap, tap, tap thoughtfully on their keyboards. Inspired by the historic surroundings, a group of thirteen students from the college visited Hartlebury Castle to work with Worcestershire’s Poet Laurette, Maggie Doyle.

Theatre Trip!

As the Beast from the East ripped its claws into the country the intrepid year 11s set off for Malvern to see an interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic gothic thriller, 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde', starring Phil Daniels of 'Eastenders' and 'Quadrophenia' fame (some of you may remember his voice in the Blur hit, 'Parklife').

The theatre were incredibly welcoming even organising a touch tour with the director and Phil. It really helped the students get to grips with the set and helped when staff were describing the action.

Worcester Wolves!
