News > German Exchange Group Visit to Worcester

This November saw the 29th visit of members of the Carl-Strehl-Schule in Marburg, our German partner school. This year there were six students accompanied by English teachers Silke Rösler and Markus Biber. As always, their visit was full of events which were fun and educational.

They loved the National Telephone Kiosk Collection and Telephone Museum at Avoncroft Museum of Buildings and marvelled at the fully operational windmill from Danzey Green. The echoing ice house was especially popular.

On the Wednesday we were given a very informative guided tour of Worcester Cathedral by Mr Dean, former French and Latin teacher at NCW and they really enjoyed shopping in the City, particularly for custard creams, which are not available in Germany!

As always, our visit to the Black Country Museum the following day was a great success, including the Mine visit and canal trip. The traditional chips cooked in beef dripping went down very well.

Friday’s visit to Anne Hathaway’s Cottage was fascinating, and the statues based on Shakespeare’s plays in the garden were very impressive. They also enjoyed the Gower statues by the river. The day was rounded off by a “farewell” pizza party.

On the way back to the Airport on Saturday, we stopped in Droitwich Spa for fish and chips and shopping – and lots more custard creams!

All in all, it was a fantastic week.
