Students join David Ginola at the London Eye
Students and staff joined David Ginola at the London Eye to launch the Vision Sports Legacy Fund. The launch event was hosted by David and his wife Coraline to raise awareness of the importance of sport in the development of blind and visually impaired children.
Students were invited on board the London Eye along with a host of the charities supporters, including Mike Brace CBE who has represented Great Britain at three World Championships, six Paralympic games and two European championships; and five times Paralympic gold medal winner Noel Thatcher MBE.
Speaking at the event, David Ginola said, “Sport is an amazing vehicle for confidence and character building in children. It can be particularly instrumental in the lives of blind and visually impaired children who are often otherwise left on the sidelines because of a lack of facilities to accommodate their needs. This is exactly what Vision’s Sports Legacy Fund aims to change and why I decided to get involved.”
The Vision Charity Sports Legacy Fund will enable blind and visually impaired children and young adults to access sport throughout the UK. The fund will see Vision collaborate with national governing bodies and sports facilities as well as charities, groups and associations that wish to provide long term opportunities for young people to engage in sport. The fund will also support specialist schools and colleges to enhance their current facilities for blind and visually impaired children.
Larry Davis, Executive Director, Vision Charity explained, “Many blind and visually impaired children are isolated from activities which are essential to their development. They are denied the opportunity to take part in sport due to a lack of specialist coaching, facilities and equipment. We’re aiming to change that with the Sports Legacy Fund and encourage the public to get involved in any way they can.”
