Year 9 Camp

Year 9 left their electronic devices behind as they set off to North Wales to face their fears and have some fun at Camp. The group set off for Aberdyfi for 4 days of adventure, staying in an outdoor education centre within the Snowdonia National Park, where the River Dyfi meets the blue waters of Cardigan Bay. The purpose of the camp was to develop teamwork, cooperation and communication skills – as well as take on some physical and mental challenges. Outdoor education instructors from the centre led the activities with support from the NCW staff.

Team Training leads to Goalball Silver!

Great Britain Men’s Goalball UK Coach, Faye Dale, spent the day in Worcester at the beginning of May for a training day with NCW Goalball players, hosted at Nunnery Wood Sports Centre and working on new skills and how to apply them in a match situation.

Outstanding Ofsted!

The latest Ofsted Inspection has resulted in a report of ‘Outstanding’ in all areas for the Social Care aspects of the College.

150th Anniversary!

2016 marks the 150th anniversary of New College Worcester and a year of celebratory events and projects will start on 22nd April with a Jubilee Day, when all former students and staff of the College are invited back for a day of reunion, activities and celebrations. There will be a street party lunch, a celebrity cricket match, vintage tea tent and performances and displays throughout the day. All former students are invited to come along from 10am, to meet up with old friends, make new ones and enjoy the day. The dress code is wear a hat! Trip to Parliament

NCW has done trips to Parliament before, but this one was something special! Ten students and five staff made their way by minibus, train, foot and underground, to the Palace of Westminster on a chilly February day, to take part in a programme organised by the Parliament Education Service.

Fun in France

It was dark and early on a January Saturday, 4.30am to be exact, when nine students and five staff collected themselves together at NCW, ready for the minibus journey to Birmingham Airport. We were to fly to Chambéry in the Savoie region of France and would then get a minibus transfer to our hotel, the Terra Nova, at La Plagne

NCW Shares Expertise in Norway

New College Worcester is involved in an exciting European Erasmus+ funded project with partners from Norway, Germany, England, Finland and the BDFA (Batten Disease Family Association). The aim of the project is to establish a knowledge base in approaches to learning for young people with the rare genetic disorder JNCL (Juvenile Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis) – also known as Batten Disease, to ensure the highest quality of education and educational practice across Europe.

Great NCW Bake Off

Staff and students at New College Worcester for children and young people who are blind or partially sighted, have been baking cakes to raise money for Children in Need. As part of their fundraising week all students and staff were invited to take part in a Great NCW Bake Off competition and the entries were judged by Mrs Nathalie Bufton, Head of Independent Living Skills department, and Mr Robin Walker MP.
