Leaving a Gift to NCW in your Will
If you leave a gift to NCW in your will, its value will be deducted from your estate (your money, possessions, property) before Inheritance Tax is applied. Gifts made before your death may also qualify for exemption.
Ways you can leave a gift to NCW in your will
You can either leave a fixed sum (known as a Pecuniary Legacy) or part or all of your estate once other gifts have been distributed (known as a Residuary Legacy)
You can do this through your will, or by a declaration to the executors or personal representative giving instructions as to how you would like your legacy to be distributed. If you are leaving money to the College you will need to make it clear that it is for New College Worcester, you will need to give your solicitor the following details
Name of our College / Charity - New College Worcester
Charity registration number - 1118377
Our address:
Whittington Road
Worcester
WR5 2JX
Gifts made to NCW in the seven years before your death are exempt from Inheritance Tax.
Specific items
You can also leave a specific item such as paintings, items of jewellery, even a car. Your solicitor can help you make the necessary arrangement in your will when you write it.
If you have already written your will you can amend it to include a donation to NCW. This will mean that you have to add a codicil which your solicitor can write for you.
Donate Shares
Share giving can be one of the most tax efficient ways of donating to NCW because charitable gifts of shares are free from Capital Gains Tax and individuals can claim Income Tax relief on the value of the donated shares. This tax relief applies no matter what the total value of the shares.
