Leavers Prom & Dinner
Written by Matthew (Head Boy) and Tatum (Head Girl)
This year's Leavers Dinner was celebrated off campus, for the first time ever! Thanks to the effort of a group of students, we were able to secure funding from FFLOS (funding for lots of stuff) so that years 11, 12 and 13, plus many staff, could enjoy an amazing night at the Worcester Rugby Club’s premier suite – and were still able to make school the next morning.
In the knowledge of the great evening to come, students and staff took greater care than ever in preparing. Many girls splashed out for a new dress, and some of the guys hired amazing suits and tuxedoes.
No Leavers Dinner could be complete without an entertaining yet mortifying speech from Dr Stonehouse, our Vice Principle and resident comedian. We listened, crying with laughter, as he told of his master plan for New College’s own superhero ‘Super Pig Man’, whose powers owe themselves to a multitude of students, all sung to the tune of ABBA's 'Thank You for the Music'.
Following the speech came as New College’s answer to the BAFTAs, the LAFTAs! These are a selection of awards to the Sixth Form’s best dressed, laziest, most hyperactive and more.
In high spirits we all then enjoyed the dance floor and DJ. The dancing varied from a dignified slow to, in some cases, break dancing. This all went on until early the next morning, giving us all time to enjoy the occasion in its great setting, and to have a time to remember before saying goodbye to friends and staff leaving this summer.
The night was a great one for all there and closes a great year with yet one more wonderful memory. This has set a sensational benchmark for leavers’ events to come.
