Family Day
3rd May 2010
What is Family Day?
Family Day is a fun and exciting day for any family who has a child with a visual
impairment. The day offers a range of activities for all ages and parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters are all welcome! Activities will include:
| Cake Decorating | Kitchen Science |
| Family Swimming | Tour of the College |
| Treasure Hunt | Climbing Wall |
| Art Workshop | Circus Skills |
We have also teamed up with the National Blind Children’s Society (NBCS) to provide some informal presentations that will offer specialist expertise to parents whose children are making the transition from junior to secondary school.
We understand that for a lot of parents, transition to secondary school can be daunting, especially if your child has a visual impairment. When they reach school years 5 and 6 you’re faced with a lot of uncertainty, and without prior experience it’s hard to know what questions to ask and what to look for in a school.
The presentations will offer impartial, informed advice about transition to secondary school and the chance to discuss the issues with experts and others in a similar situation.
Presentations will include:
‘Transition to Secondary School for VI Students – Issues & Solutions’ – NCW
‘Education & Family Support Services’ – NBCS
Parents can choose to attend one or both of the presentations or to just take part in the activities with their family.
