Exchange Trip to Marburg
A group of students and teachers flew to Frankfurt this month, in order to spend a week at our partner school in Marburg.
The students stayed in “Wohngruppen” (flats accommodating up to 8 German teenagers) in the town itself and accompanied their German partners to lessons most days. They also went on trips, including one to Eisenach (in the former German Democratic Republic), where they visited the Wartburg castle, in which Martin Luther was held captive and also to Bach’s birthplace.
Another day saw them travelling by train to Frankfurt in order to visit a museum with an exhibition on prehistoric man. They were given audio guides in English or German and there were lots of things to touch, including braille explanations under the exhibits.
The farewell party on the last evening brought the week to a wonderful end, as the group had the chance to relax with German friends old and new, before the long journey back to Birmingham.
One of our Year 13 students, Meg said: “It was an amazing week and I’ll never forget the fantastic experiences I had in Marburg. I’m hoping to go back and spend a year there as part of my gap year.”
