Curriculum
A-Levels
In Year 12, most students take four AS levels and take three of these on to A2 in Year 13. Students who wish to take all four subjects on to A2 will receive support to do this. Some students choose to study a wider range of subjects and select new AS levels to study in Year Thirteen.
GCSEs
GCSEs are also offered, either as re-sits, or to enable students to pursue individual interests, such as Italian. Choices are discussed with each individual to ensure that they are both appropriate and challenging.
The following AS and A2 subjects are offered (according to demand and staffing.)
| Art and Design | Biology |
| Business Studies | Chemistry |
| Computing | Critical Thinking |
| English Language | English Literature |
| French | Geography |
| German | Health and Social Care |
| History | Law |
| Mathematics | Further Mathematics |
| Music | Music Technology |
| Psychology | Philosophy |
| Physics | Politics |
| Religious Studies | Sociology |
Specific courses may run for students for whom a full course of A-levels is less appropriate, such as ASDAN, which is a certificated course leading to the development of skills for the workplace. Students also have opportunities to attend a "split" course, where New College provides support for studies undertaken at the local College of Technology for vocational courses.
At all times, the aim of NCW is to ensure that students have a programme that is appropriate to their individual needs.
