Camping Out in Style!
The Primary Club have generously donatoned ten new tents to replace the old and tired equipment. Outdoor activities for the blind and partially sighted children play a big part in building their confidence, team work and life skills experience.
The donation came through Howard and Heather Tomlinson of Hereford, who support The Primary Club in memory of their son, Edward, who died of CO poisoning in Beirut in 2005. He had been a keen member of the Primary Club from the age of 10 or 11 when he first heard about it on Test Match Special. Howard and Heather are especially pleased that their gift will support the work at NCW for three reasons: one of Eddy's good friends was a former student of NCW; the money is designated to purchase tents and Eddie loved outdoor activities; and the application – for very good reasons – was late in being submitted to the Primary Club. Edward was always late!
Heather and Howard have raised the money for their donation through the sale of their book about their son, ‘Celebrating Eddie’. Copies are available from them personally (34, Park St, Hereford, HR1 2RD) or from Hereford Cathedral shop.
The new tents have been very gratefully received by the Outdoor Activities Co-ordinator Caroline Gibbs who said “they will make a huge difference and we are very grateful for them, here’s to another 10 years of camping.”
